Our Guidelines

Television

Television is not essential in a young child’s life and should not be used in a Day Home environment as entertainment. Parents are not requested to avoid television time at home. The Day Home environment will simply not use television as a way to entertain. The Day Home may show children’s movies on special occasions only.

Record Keeping

There will be regular record-keeping describing the child’s activities and skill acquisition. Upon parental request, detailed record can be provided to the parents at the end of the year and before moving to another school (preschool or kindergarten).

Observation

Parents will have the opportunity to come in and observe their child at the Day Home (observe how he or she interacts socially, what he or she is doing, what types of activities he or she is working on, how his or her skills are coming along, etc.)

More information about your observation period will be provided to you.

Naps

The children will be napping as per the parents’ previously discussed schedule or as needed.

Snacks and Lunch

We provide a morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack. The Day Home has very few children and allows for a more flexible snack schedule than bigger and higher ratio day homes.

Lunchtime will be at about the same time every day to provide a healthy routine.

Flexibility

Our Day Home provides flexible hours, weekend care, evening hours, and care during some statutory holidays. Please note that holidays may require an additional cost. Please contact administration for more information.

In case your child is sick, we ask that he or she stays home. Please contact the administration at (403) 540-8895 to inform us that your child will stay home for the day. See provincial regulations here.

Holidays

The Day Home may still be opened on some statutory holidays. Reservation and payment will be provided to administration at a minimum of 24 hours before the statutory holiday.

Parents are requested to advise the administration of any days the child will not be in attendance.

Clothing, Footwear, Diapers, etc.

The Day Home will not provide clothes, footwear, diapers, or wipes. We ask that parents also provide a bag with extra clothes that will stay at the Day Home if the child needs to get changed. A set of indoor shoes is highly recommended as well as outdoor shoes/boots.

Weather Conditions

Parents are asked to be attentive to the weather. Please ensure that your child arrives at the Day Home with weather-appropriate footwear and clothing (rain boots, winter attire such as snow pants, etc.).

Safety and Emergency

  • Parents have to provide their contact information, which will be kept in an Emergency Contact Folder along with all necessary medical information. Other family members’ contact information is welcome. Parents also have to provide a list of the people who may be picking up their child (related to the child or not) for the contract's duration. These people’s full names and contact information is required. If a person who is not included in the contact list is to pick up the child, the parents must provide a written notice to the Day Home staff.
  • Outdoor activities: There will be outdoor activities either in the Day Home’s fenced backyard (sandbox, bicycles, etc.) or at the park and only parks located in the MardaLoop/Altadore neighborhood and within walking distance to the Day Home.
  • There will not be any field trips, and the children will not be taken anywhere else in the city or outside the city. The Day Home is open to any suggestions as far as potential field trips in the future. Before organizing a field trip, parents will have to sign a release form and will be invited to accompany the children and Day Home staff on the field trip.
  • Parents are asked to provide information on all known food allergies and provide a list of the food products to avoid in the Day Home if there is an allergy.
  • Parents are asked to disclose any known medical condition, other than allergies, that requires unique treatments or handling.

Staffing

Additional staff members may be employed by Calgary’s French Day Home to provide extra expertise and services in the Day Home. The staff members shall be fully qualified to work with young children, have a full police background check, vulnerable sector checks, and First Aid/CPR certified.
